The Australian Government's Industry Growth Centres Initiative is a new policy direction for Australia, taking an industry-led approach to driving innovation, productivity and competitiveness by focusing on areas of competitive strength and strategic priority. The initiative aims to enable national action on key issues such as deregulation, skills, collaboration and commercialisation. It aims to drive excellence, not dependence and create an economy that ensures Australia’s ongoing prosperity.
Each Growth Centre is a not-for-profit organisation, led by a strategic board of industry experts who oversee the operation of the Growth Centre. While the Growth Centres are flexible in their approach to addressing barriers to success they are tasked with working closely with industry to set a long-term strategy for their sector, as outlined in the Sector Competitiveness Plan.
METS Ignited is the Growth Centre for the Mining Equipment, Technology and Services sector and is one of six Industry Growth Centres:
- National Energy Resources Australia
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Cyber Security
- Food and Agribusiness
- Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals
