Project Funds Round 1

First round funding recipients

Approximately $3.6 million of funding was made available under METS Ignited Project Funds in 2016/17.

In the pilot EOI, METS Ignited sought projects which addressed the METS 10 Year Sector Competitiveness Plan, including the broad Industry Knowledge Priorities, or established METS Living Lab nodes/sandpits. Projects were evaluated on their merit against alignment with the above topics and with the METS Ignited Project Funds Programme Guidelines.

Recipients

Australian Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science Senator the Hon Arthur Sinodinos announced the recipients of the pilot METS Project Funds round at an Unearthed Solutions event in Perth on Friday, 28 April 2017.

Austmine

Austmine's Women in STEM: METS Career Pathway Program is an initiative designed to increase the awareness of women studying STEM subjects at university, of the possibilities a career within the METS sector can hold. It is an integrated program combining networking events, online tutorials and an industry paid internship, that will create an informed and experienced community of future female employees for the METS sector.

Unearthed Solutions

Unearthed recognises there is an opportunity to increase the engagement and representation of the METS sector in initiatives that help improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the resources industry as a whole. Unearthed has developed a program to encourage greater METS company involvement in early stage innovation activities including; a global hardware competition focussed on SME participation, METS focussed hackathon event, and the launch of an Accelerator program providing seed funding, expertise and access to industry mentors.

CORE Innovation Hub

CORE Innovation Hub is the first in a global network of hubs linking the resources technology sector by leveraging national networks and industry priorities to provide Australia's first co-working, collaboration and innovation hub focused on the resources industry. CORE is a common point for operators, suppliers, researchers, entrepreneurs and start-ups to connect and collaborate on innovative challenges across the oil, gas, mining and METS sectors.

Resources and Engineering Skills Alliance (RESA)

The Resources Ready Online program is a structured series of seminars and workshops delivered by the Resources and Engineering Skills Alliance (RESA) to companies working in, or seeking to enter the supply chain of the mining and oil and gas sectors. The program will expand the previously South Australian-centred training nationally to provide companies with in-depth industry knowledge and skills delivered using an innovative blend of in-person and online delivery.

Coalition for Energy Efficient Comminution (CEEC)

The Coalition for Energy Efficient Comminution (CEEC) International Ltd helps the mineral industry improve the efficiency of comminution, and find complementary energy and productivity improvements in mining. CEEC's globally recognised Energy Curves program provides free benchmarking tools to help miners identify how to reduce energy intensity and increase productivity. CEEC will run five workshops across Australia for miners and METS sharing successful implementation case studies and operational data to define and investigate a wide range of industry solutions and collaboration opportunities.
